Monitoring water quality gives us a clear picture of the brook’s condition. Like a regular health check, this long term data helps us identify changes, track restoration progress, and respond quickly when issues arise. These insights support wildlife habitat and guide the work needed to keep the brook healthy for future generations.
Monitoring Sites
Each month, we collect data from multiple sites along Doan Brook. Measurements include chloride, temperature, dissolved oxygen, pH, and conductivity. This information helps us understand how the stream responds to weather, seasons, and restoration work.

As of 2025, data collected through our membership with the Lake Erie Volunteer Science Network is being submitted to the EPA as level II Credible Data. This represents an exciting step towards empowering citizen scientists across the Lake Erie basin to take action to protect our water resources. Read more about this exciting new development here.

Cleveland Water Alliance – CWA runs the Lake Erie Volunteer Science Network, which has generously loaned us our 3 YSI Pro Quattro multimeters which we use to measure temperature, dissolved oxygen, pH and conductivity. This year, the Lake Erie Volunteer Science Network became a level 2 credible data collector, contributing its data to local, regional, national and international agencies.
