Urban streams are disappearing. We’re not letting this one go.
Doan Brook runs through our parks and neighborhoods. We protect it through cleanups, tree planting, and bringing people together.

A few hours of your day can make a real difference

Every one of us lives in a watershed
A watershed is an area of land where all the rain, snow, and runoff eventually flows into the same body of water, like a stream, lake, or river.
For us, that’s Doan Brook. And that means everything that happens in our neighborhoods – on our streets, lawns, or sidewalks can end up in our local stream.

A small stream with a big role
Doan Brook is a small stream that flows through Cleveland, Cleveland Heights, and Shaker Heights. It runs past homes, through parks, beneath sidewalks, and eventually merges into Lake Erie.
More than 60,000 people live in the Doan Brook watershed.

What’s hurting Doan Brook?
Doan Brook might look calm, but it faces real problems, mostly from years of human impact. Here’s what’s hurting it:
- Rain runs off pavement too fast, carrying trash and oil straight into the brook.
- Invasive plants crowd out native trees and harm the balance of the ecosystem.
- With fewer roots holding soil, the brook floods more often and erodes its banks.
- Old pipes, litter, and daily waste are polluting the water and hurting wildlife.

Helping the brook heal, one step at a time
DBWP runs year-round programs to clean, restore, and replant the stream and its surroundings. Here’s how we bring people and nature together.

Community Programs
We organize cleanups, paddles, school visits, and more to bring neighbors together and care for the brook.

Restoration Work
Our projects help reduce erosion, manage flooding, and bring natural spaces back to life throughout the watershed.

Educational Resources
We create easy-to-use guides that explain the brook, local wildlife, and ways to protect the watershed.

Ways you can help protect Doan Brook
Doan Brook needs people like you, who care about clean water, thriving wildlife, and green public spaces. Get involved to give back to your community today and make a lasting difference.
