Cleveland, OH — [January 2, 2026] — The Doan Brook Watershed Partnership Board of Trustees (DBWP) is pleased to announce that Emily J. Kao has been appointed as its new Executive Director.
Kao will lead the organization’s efforts to protect and restore the Doan Brook watershed, advance environmental education, and strengthen community engagement across the region. “Emily brings an exceptional combination of leadership, environmental expertise, and community-centered vision,” said Nancy R. Moore, President of the DBWP Board of Trustees. “Her understanding of watershed science, commitment to ecological stewardship and ability to build collaborative partnerships make her an ideal leader for this next chapter of the organization.”
Kao joins the DBWP with a strong background in environmental science and sustainability, earning her B.A. from Cornell University. She has previously served as DBWP Watershed Program Manager, leading all annual events, coordinating volunteers, delivering outreach, environmental, educational and restoration programming for the Partnership of the Cities of Cleveland, Cleveland Heights and Shaker Heights.
“I am honored to accept the role of Executive Director of Doan Brook Watershed Partnership. Doan Brook is a vital part of our region’s ecosystem and culture, and I look forward to deepening collaborations with community partners and watershed residents as we work together to restore native habitat, improve water quality, and build ecological resilience in Greater Cleveland and beyond.” said Emily.
Kao’s appointment comes at a pivotal time as the organization continues expanding programs focused on stormwater management, habitat restoration, green infrastructure, and public access to urban natural
spaces across the watershed.
