SUMMARY:The Doan Brook: Hiking For Cleaner Waters
DESCRIPTION:About the Event\nLooking for a break from the sun and the crowds during our 2026 Take to the Lake event? Join the Doan Brook Watershed Partnership for a guided and interactive family-friendly hike around Lower Lake! \nAs we explore the brook and its surrounding habitats\, you’ll discover the incredible diversity of plants and wildlife that call the Doan Brook home. Along the way\, we’ll identify native aquatic and terrestrial species\, discuss the important roles they play in maintaining a healthy ecosystem\, and learn how they contribute to clean water\, wildlife habitat\, and the overall health of the brook. \nWhether you’re a seasoned nature enthusiast or simply curious about the water around you\, this hike offers a unique opportunity to experience the watershed in a new way. Come connect with nature\, ask questions\, and gain a deeper appreciation for the plants\, animals\, and ecological processes that make the Doan Brook such an important part of our community. \nWhere to meet\nWe will meet for our hike at the Doan Brook Habitat table on the west side of Brook Rd.  \nDon’t have time for an entire hike\, but already at Take to the Lake? Consider stopping by our Doan Brook Habitat table to learn more about our watershed! \nWhat to Bring\nPlease wear closed-toed shoes and weather-appropriate clothing. We will be walking on a combination of paved\, mulched\, and gravel paths for approximately 1 mile around the lake. A water bottle and snacks are recommended for your comfort. The hike will involve frequent breaks where we will identify and discuss the roles of plants and animals in and around the brook. \nParking\nParking is available on South Park Boulevard.

SUMMARY:Free Trees For CLE
DESCRIPTION:100 FREE native trees for Cleveland residents!\nDoan Brook Watershed Partnership (DBWP) has 100 native trees to give away to Cleveland residents.  \nCleveland residents are eligible for two free trees and must plant the trees on Cleveland private property. Additionally\, all recipients are required to attend “Tree School 101\,” a 15-minute presentation on caring for and maintaining trees. Several species are available\, including Red Maple\, Ohio Buckeye\, Eastern Redbud\, American plum\, and Pawpaw. Requests for specific species of trees for your yard are unavailable due to unknown species availability. Most trees will be between three and six feet in height in three to five-gallon buckets. \nInterested individuals must fill out a form before receiving their trees.  \nThis event will be held in the rear parking lot of the Fairhill Partners Campus. Check the map below with specific event locations and traffic flow. \nDirections for community members to follow to reach the DBWP live stakes drive through events. \nAbout our Free Tree Program!\nDBWP received a $10\,000 grant from the Cleveland Tree Coalition to provide trees at no cost to Cleveland residents to increase planting on private property\, build sentiment around trees\, and build community trust. Approximately 30% of the Doan Brook Watershed is covered by tree canopy. When sub-dividing the watershed into smaller neighborhood units tree canopy’s cover as low as 4% of these areas! Help us  increase our tree canopy to encourage resiliency across Cleveland. \nFor more information\, visit our Tree Programs page. \n  \n

Filled with meandering trails and multiple waterfalls\, the Doan Brook Gorge is a beautiful and often under-utilized natural area of the Doan Brook watershed. \nThis year\, we are hosting 6 “Habitat Stewardship Days” which will involve invasive species removal\, native tree plantings\, and so much more! Join us in helping to make the Doan Brook Gorge a more biodiverse and welcoming outdoor space for all! \nGeneral\nWhat to bring: Volunteers of all experience levels are welcome. We will have limited gloves and hand tools available\, but if you have your own garden tools\, please feel free to bring those along! Please wear closed-toed shoes and weather-appropriate clothing that you do not mind getting a little dirty\, and consider bringing water and/or snacks for your comfort! \nParking: Volunteers can park on E. 127th or at the Fairhill Partners building Parking Lot on 12200 Fairhill Rd.  and walk to the work site on Fairhill Road between E 124th and E. 127th.
